MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger

MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger

How do you make a complex advocacy mission easier for people to understand and act on?

MAZON has been a leading voice in the anti-hunger movement for more than 40 years. Guided by Jewish values, the organization works at the intersection of policy, community organizing, and systemic change, advocating for issues including SNAP benefits, veterans’ food security, and military family hunger.

That work is complex by nature. But understanding how to engage with it shouldn’t have to be.

MAZON needed a website designed around the people arriving there: what they want to understand, what they need to find, and what might move them from learning about an issue to doing something about it.

Challenge

Translating Complex Policy Advocacy into Purposeful Engagement

Like many advocacy organizations, MAZON had accumulated years of important policy work, resources, updates, and organizational content. However, the existing digital presence struggled to convey the full scope of their work without overwhelming visitors.

Key strategic challenges included persistent misconceptions about MAZON's core identity—many assumed they operated local food banks or served only Jewish communities, rather than leading U.S. federal hunger advocacy. Crucial programs like the Quick Reaction Fund were obscured deep within the navigation. And photography focused on hardship unintentionally reinforced the misconception that MAZON was a direct relief charity rather than a systemic policy advocacy leader.

Solution

Humanizing Advocacy Through Tailored Messaging and Intentional Design

We started with the visitor. Instead of asking people to navigate MAZON according to internal department structures, we developed a comprehensive messaging framework and tailored audience personas—mapping clear user journeys for longtime values-driven donors, crisis-activated advocates, and community leaders.

To humanize policy advocacy, the visual design introduced organic abstract artwork and dynamic hover effects that bring warmth and vibrancy to institutional stability. The design brought MAZON's refreshed brand to life online, pairing its warm yellows, pinks, and oranges with the organization's core blues, while headlines were paired with clean, hyper-legible typography featuring subtle organic angles.

Strategic photo direction shifted from displaying direct relief to showcasing systemic action and the ultimate goal of hunger solved. Key high-impact initiatives like the Quick Reaction Fund were elevated, and action pathways were re-architected around clear, friction-free "Learn, Act, and Give" pillars across desktop and mobile.

Results

A Foundation for Long-Term Impact and Clear Storytelling
The new MAZON website launched in early August 2026, establishing a unified platform built to make MAZON's role clear and connect visitors directly to systemic action.

By pairing clear audience-first messaging with an inviting, modern visual identity, the redesigned site addresses long-standing misconceptions while giving partners, donors, and advocates immediate access to the resources and campaigns that matter to them most. The work continues through an ongoing partnership committed to ending hunger through policy and community empowerment.
